What is a typical afternoon like?

Every school day, director Victoria Ruggiero and the counselors pick up the children from PS 41 and PS 3 at 3 PM. We greet the children individually and take attendance.

On the way to our home base, we stop at a local deli to buy snacks. We encourage healthy snack choices. We help the children select their own snacks. We help them pay and count their change.

On the way to our home base, we stress safety and respect; the kids eat their snacks on the way, we talk to them about their day, we laugh and sometimes sing. It’s a fine way for the children to transition from a long school day to after school child care. After we arrive at our home base, the kids spend a few minutes settling in. Every day, two or three older children help set up. Sports equipment is set up. Art supplies are set out. Outdoor equipment is set up. The special activity of the day is organized. Each child has the opportunity to choose what they want to do from a wide variety of choices.

Your child can choose outdoor play (climbing, scooters, jump rope, tag, building forts with crates, basketball, softball, and more).

Or your child can choose indoor play (Legos, action figures, dress-up, board games, drawing and much more.)
Children can also choose the special activity of the day which usually begins at 4 PM and lasts until about 5:45 PM.

After a long day at school, every day your child may freely choose from any of our wonderful activities and, depending on interest and attention level, even move around between activities!
